Welcome to the monthly meeting for Java Developers in the Tulsa area.

I'll be presenting an extension on one of the classes I gave at TechFest last week.   In it I'll go over SQLite with Android but my goal is to incorporate an ORM named "Sugar"  - check out this URL: http://satyan.github.io/sugar/     I only found out about the fact the ORM existed for Android thanks to one of the attendees who brought it up.

Also I had promised to link to the slides and source code from my presentation at TechFest.      Here are the links to the slides and to the PI4J source code.   Please note I will be cleaning it up a bit and expanding on the instructions for how to run it.   I did convert it from a netbeans project to a maven project so you will need Maven to build the source checked in to GitHub.

PI4J presentation: PI4J Slide Deck

PI4J Source Code:  TechFest Demo Code

Android Techfest presentation:  Android SQLite Slide Deck

Android SQLite Source Code : --- Coming, will check it in after Wed meeting

Thank you to everyone who attended in July and I look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it in August.  - Meeting Details and directions are after the following announcement:

Good evening!

As I write this tonight I'm working on my presentations for TulsaTechFest.    Due to the fact I'm usually horrible about remembering to share the slides and source code after the meeting I will be placing the links in this message.    Please note I said I'm working on them so be aware of the fact that until I actually present on 8/5 they are subject to change - perhaps dramatically.     Still I think it will be worth it to get this in place now.    I'll edit this post to add or update links as it makes sense:

Java & PI4J - Home Automation Slides

Android Database operations with SQLite - Slides

For those that don't know, the following courses at TulsaTechFest are Java based or JVM Based:

Scala 101    8:45 AM - 10:00

Speaker(s): Darren Gibson

Scala: Object Oriented and Fun(ctional)! In this talk we'll cover programming on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) with the Scala Programming Language. It runs on various platforms including the JVM, Android, Web Browsers, and Node.js. Due to its expressive syntax and powerful type system, it is often referred to as a 'better Java', but its numerous language features make it so much more than that. Topics to be discussed about this awesome language will include the what, who, where, why, and how of the Scala language.

Unicode Processing in Java   10:45-12:00

Speaker(s): Garret Wilson

Introduction to charsets; text I/O; Unicode categories; character decomposition; surrogate pairs; collation. (This session goes deep into Unicode details.)

Internationalizing Java applications   1:00 - 2:15

Speaker(s): Garret Wilson

Introduction to internationalization; exploration of Java facilities; additional capabilities brought by Rincl. (This session is introductory but also introduces a new library.)

Single Page Application Development with Scala/Scala.js    2:45 - 4:00

Speaker(s): Darren Gibson

Scala: if you've ever desired to have one language to rule them all, this is it! In this talk, we will discuss how to create a Single Page Application (SPA) with Scala and Scala.js. Using this language, we will show how to implement everything from database queries to the CSS all in a type-safe way. We will also show how to create a type-safe interface between your server and client while sharing code between the two.

Java Home Automation    8:45 AM - 10:00

Speaker(s): Andrew Chandler

We will cover using PI4J and the Raspberry PI 3 to display data on an small LCD, monitor temperature, control relays, perform analog to digital conversions (ADC) with a external chip, and react to our environment.

Android database operations (CRUD) with SQLite   2:45 - 4:00

Speaker(s): Andrew Chandler

We will cover using database functions on the Android platform. During the session we'll cover creating a simple grocery list application to demonstrate the functionality.

Welcome to the monthly meeting for Java Developers in the Tulsa area.

This month  Blixa Morgan  will present on GIT source control.   Source control is integral to any software development effort and Blixa will be covering the popular GIT flavor.
